Youth Shooting
Over 10,533 young hunters started their hunting experiences here at the club. We have provided this service free of charge for over 46 years. This program is a DNR approved Hunter Safety Certification course that is required for youth prior to the purchase of their first hunting license. The course will teach students about hunter safety, ethics and good sportsmanship. Additionally, students will have hands on experience shooting shotguns, rifles, bow and arrows, and black powder rifles. Adults are encouraged to attend with their children.
Students participating in this program will be introduced to many different types of guns.. The program meets and qualifies for MUCC and NRA shooting prerequisites for entering state competition. Youth are taught shooting skills in BB guns, shotguns and reloading. The focus of the program will be to prepare shooters for MUCC competition and state competition. Special emphasis will be placed on proper safety procedures and safety equipment used when shooting. The program meets every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. until 7:30pm. Ages 10-19 are welcome.
The club provides a monthly Tracks magazine to 5th grade students in some county schools (Conservation Magazine). The Club also awards a number of full scholarships to the Michigan United Conservation Club’s Youth Conservation summer camp; member's children or grand children always have first choice
